GERB quit the governing majority after its partners went too far, including [MRF Chair and MRF – New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan] Peevski, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said in a YouTube interview on Friday. Borissov spoke to journalist Yavor Dachkov at GERB’s party headquarters in Sofia.
“Self-confidence is a very good quality, but arrogance is a bad one. And when everyone went too far, including Peevski, nothing kept GERB in this government, in this majority,” Borissov said in an interview posted on Dachkov’s YouTube channel.
“There isn’t a single issue where I can say GERB got it wrong over these 11 months,” Borissov said. “We resigned because everything that was being done can be summed up in one word: arrogance. Except for GERB, they all did it,” he added.
“All I said was: "By January 1, there will be a government; after January 1, I will conduct a review." I said this publicly at least ten times – by January 1. And they knew that after January 1, because we needed those days. I’m grateful to President Rumen Radev for not rushing the mandate procedures; the government managed to handle things. As you can see, for the second or third day now that the country has been using the euro, there has been no turmoil, everything is running normally,’” Borissov said.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced the resignation of his Cabinet at an emergency press conference in Parliament on December 11, 2025, alongside senior officials of the governing coalition parties GERB-UDF, There Is Such a People (TISP) and BSP-United Left. The move came as the National Assembly was about to vote on a no-confidence motion submitted by Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) and amid mass anti-government protests that began over the Cabinet’s budget plans and broadened into wider discontent over corruption and governance failures; the resignation was submitted to Parliament and the outgoing Cabinet said it would continue to perform its functions until a new government is elected.
