Greek saxophonist, vocalist, and composer Dimitrios Vassilakis will perform at the Bansko Jazz Festival on Wednesday together with his quartet, featuring his son Nestor Vassilakis on tenor saxophone. Their Ballads & Blues project, blending traditions and contemporary themes such as artificial intelligence and improvisation, will offer a masterclass-style concert, organizers from the Festivals in Bulgaria Association said.

Also taking the stage on Wednesday are three of the most prominent names in Bulgaria’s brass scene Mihail Yosifov, Velislav Stoyanov, and Dimitar Lolev, presenting their original project CapriHorns. Their compositions draw on deep knowledge of jazz tradition, blending it with modern musical language influenced by funk, Latin, and Balkan styles.

The performance continues the mission of the Brass Association, founded in 2008 by Yosifov and Stoyanov to promote and develop brass music in Bulgaria. The organization now unites generations of musicians shaping the contemporary Bulgarian music scene.

The audience at the festival’s World Stage will also enjoy a performance by Vali Bogheas and his band, combining traditional Moldovan and Balkan melodies and instruments with modern European elements.

The Bansko Jazz Festival is organized by Bansko Municipality and the Festivals in Bulgaria Association, with support from the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism.
