The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) will assist Prof. Bettany Hughes for her next projects. This was agreed between her and the Director General of the Agency, Kiril Valchev, before the screening of Hughes' film The Treasures of Bulgaria at the UNESCO building in Paris on Tuesday.

The event is among the highlights of the programme of the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Paris.

Hughes will have access to the archival documents and photos of the BTA, as well as to the video archive. She will present her next projects at the Agency's press clubs in the country and abroad. Hughes said she was very impressed with BTA's history and excited about the upcoming collaboration.

She is a historian and author of a series of documentaries. She has presented over 50 TV and radio documentaries for the BBC, Channel 4, Netflix, Discovery, PBS, The History Channel, National Geographic, BBC World and ITV. Her programmes have been viewed by over 250 million people worldwide.

Her Treasures of the World series is broadcast in 120 countries around the world. Part of it is the documentary Treasures of Bulgaria.

In the summer of 2023, the first episode of Treasures of Bulgaria was filmed, presenting the Kazanlak Tomb, Buzludzha, the Basilica in Plovdiv, Heraclea Sintica, the Rila Monastery, the Rila Lakes, the Archaeological Museum - Varna, where the oldest gold treasure in the world is exhibited, Varna Lake, the Nestinar rituals in the village of Kosti and the rituals of the inhabitants of the village of Ribnovo.

This episode of Treasures of Bulgaria premiered nationally on Viasat History on May 24, 2024.

In April 2024 a second episode of Treasures of Bulgaria was filmed in Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo, Belogradchik, Sozopol and in Magura Cave. On March 7, 2025 another episode of the series entitled “Bulgaria - the land of roses” was broadcast.
