As part of Kazanlak’s Rose Festival, the 13th annual "Bread of the Bulgarian" event unveiled the country’s longest coiled sweet banitsa—measuring about 1 kilometer and weighing over 400 kg. Made with rose-flavored Turkish delight, rose petals, and rose water syrup, the banitsa was prepared over three days by local community groups.
“The banitsa follows a traditional Kazanlak recipe,” Pepa Dimitrova, head of the social services in Kazanlak, told BTA in an interview. The banitsa was prepared over three days and nights. “For me, the length isn’t the most important part, but rather the enthusiasm and emotion we put into making it. It brought us so many positive feelings, and I thank all the participants,” Dimitrova added.
Visitors from across Bulgaria gathered to taste the record-setting pastry, celebrating both the region’s culinary and cultural heritage. The festival was held at the "Valley of the Thracian Kings" complex near Kazanlak.
