The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) contributes to ensuring that European institutions learn more about Bulgaria, said Iskra Mihaylova from the MRF – New Beginning party in connection with the 2024 annual report, presented on Thursday by BTA’s Director General to the Parliamentary Committee on Culture and Media.
She emphasized the work carried out by the BTA team on projects supported by the European Parliament and the European Commission. “I can say this is also a major step toward opening up Bulgarian society to the issues of the European Union, the European institutions, and their work in a concrete way—not just the abstract notion of ‘Brussels said so,’” Mihaylova noted.
She also commented on the Agency’s work in smaller towns and rural areas. Through BTA, people there gain, firstly, access to information from around the world and, secondly, the opportunity to contribute to the production of information themselves—information that may seem locally relevant to some, but in practice represents part of the national narrative, Mihaylova said.
BTA Director General Kiril Valchev presented his 2024 report to the Parliamentary Committee on Culture and Media. The committee members approved the report unanimously—with 12 votes in favor and none against or abstaining
