GERB-UDF MP and Committee on Culture and Media member Dimitar Nikolov told the committee on Thursday that the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) benefits from private-sector habits introduced into public-service media, resulting in stronger management practices.

Nikolov said he was particularly impressed by the way children were encouraged during the Karaliichev Days festival, adding that thanks to BTA's efforts, it was determined how long the celebration has been observed.

“I was pleased that the Director General and the agency’s correspondents attended and that the event was well covered,” Nikolov said. He noted that while the media landscape in medium-sized and large regional centres is well-developed, the situation differs markedly in a small municipality “which lacks many communication channels”.

BTA Director General Kiril Valchev’s 2024 report was adopted unanimously, with 12 votes in favour and none against or abstaining.
