Vice President Iliana Iotova held a meeting with Mauro Berenstein, President of the Delegation of Argentine Israelite Associations, the press secretariat of the head of State reported on Thursday. The meeting took place at the Presidential Administration building in Sofia and discussed human rights, hate speech, and the fight against antisemitism.
Berenstein, who is also President of the Federation of Jewish Schools of Argentina, shared best practices from Argentina in combating hate speech and denialism. Both sides agreed that education and early-age awareness are the most direct and effective ways to counter these rising threats –particularly in an era defined by high technology and intensive use of social media.
Iotova emphasized that Bulgaria serves as a positive example of a country where different ethnic and religious communities coexist in peace and mutual respect. She recalled that during World War II, Bulgaria saved its Jewish population from the Nazi concentration camps, a historical act of solidarity and courage.
Iotova reaffirmed that Bulgaria firmly opposes all forms of antisemitism, and expressed condolences for the recent killing of two employees at the Israeli Embassy in Washington.
