The directors of two Italian film festivals will be part of the jury at the 21st International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films in Varna, said the organizers, the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC). The event will begin on June 12 and marks its 60th anniversary.
Giuseppe Cuscuza from the Rome-based COLIFFE (COLiseum International Film Festival) and Lluis Valenti from the Girona Film Festival are coming to Varna for the first time during the two-year partnership.
COLIFFE promotes independent cinema and emerging filmmakers and emphasizes the social significance of film. Its founder Giuseppe Cuscuza is a recognized expert in marketing and communications, with specialization in the political and institutional sectors, sports, and cinema.
The Girona Film Festival is one of the first streaming festivals in the world and its founder Lluis Valenti is a producer, director, and screenwriter, founder of the Catalan Film Academy. He is the director of the College of Film Directors in Catalonia and serves as Catalonia’s delegate to the Assembly of the Federation of European Audiovisual Directors.
The partnership between the Bulgarian and Italian festivals aims to exchange films that explore themes of humanism and health. This year, the lineup also includes sports-themed films that highlight role models for a healthier society. The festivals are also jointly organizing accompanying events.
The International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films is organized by the Bulgarian Red Cross and the Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov Medical University in Varna. It is held with financial support from the National Culture Fund, the Culture Fund of Varna Municipality, and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
