Varna is hosting the 21st International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films on June 12-20. The festival was established 60 years ago, said the organizers, the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC).

More than 200 films selected from over 3,000 submissions from 110 countries will be screened as part of the festival's competition programme. Alongside film screenings, there will be educational academies, workshops, discussion forums and special programmes such as Silver Screen 60+ and Cross Section, which merge cinema with other artistic and genre forms.

Varna will welcome representatives of leading international organizations, medical professionals and actors.

Founded in 1965, this is Bulgaria's first international film festival. Its motto, "Through Humanism to Peace and Friendship," continues to inspire the event. The festival's mission is to explore vital social issues through the power of cinema, including health, human rights, the environment, migration and individual human stories.

Over the years, the forum in Varna has been attended by renowned actors, directors, producers, scholars, physicians, diplomats and public figures from around the globe. Among them are Japanese actress Mariko Miyagi, American film actor John Phillip Law, Russian film actress Lyudmila Chursina and celebrated Bulgarian actors Stefan Danailov, Nevena Kokanova, Eli Skorcheva and Katerina Evro.

The International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films is held under the patronage of Vice President Iliana Iotova, with support from UNESCO, the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the Bulgarian Red Cross.
