International Biennale of Glass 2023

The fourth edition of the International Biennale of Glass will be held at the Kvadrat 500 National Gallery between October 6 and December 3. It will open with a private party for exhibitors and organizers on October 5.

"The International Biennale of Glass 2023 will feature unique works by more than 220 artists from 48 countries," the organizers said. "Their works will be displayed in three key venues: Kvadrat 500, the Culture Ministry's Sredets Gallery and the UniArt Gallery of New Bulgarian University."

The forum has brought together more than 435 artists from around the world since 2017, the team said.

The main exhibition will focus on the Netherlands in partnership with that country's Embassy in Sofia.

There will be several guest exhibitions, including Glassification.hu, a tour exhibition of Hungary's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Hungarian Glass Art Society 2023-2025 at the Sredets Gallery (October 17 - November 3) and The Beginning, an exhibition of art glass by students and professors from the Glass Department of Anadolu University and the Glass Studio of New Bulgarian University at the UniArt Gallery (October 31 - November 30).

Margarita "Gita" Markova will stage an exhibition at Sofia's Kamberov Art Gallery (September 28 - October 20).

Plamen Kondov's art glass exhibition Interplanetary Nomads will be on at Velmar Jewelry House in Sofia (October 6-27).

Participants and other guests will give lectures on October 6 and 7. The lectures will be broadcast on the IBG Connect online platform.

JanHein van Stiphout and Jenny Ritzenhoff, both from the Netherlands, Caterina Zucchi (Italy), Marketa Varadiova and Iva Kolorencova (Czechia), Andrea da Ponte (Argentina) and Marta Edocs (Hungary) will give talks at the Kvadrat 500 National Gallery on October 6.
