An international workshop on translation and reception of Bulgarian literature abroad will bring together in Sofia nine Bulgarian language scholars and translators from eight countries. The event will take place June 7-9 and is organized by the Literature Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences as part of a national programme for encouraging the development of Bulgarian language studies abroad funded by the Education Ministry.

The participants will discuss the interaction of Bulgarian literature with various language cultures on the field of literary translation, said the organizers.

The central topic will be the translation of Bulgarian literature and how it is received in foreign cultures – but the discussions will be open for feedback on the life of translated texts in Bulgaria.

Among the participants are Eugenio López Arriazu (Argentina), Giorgia Spadoni (Italy), Jasmina Jovanovic (Serbia), Sakip Suleymanoglu (Turkiye), Maria Koukouyanni (Greece), Jakub Mikulecký (Czechia), Rossitza Mitreva de Zulli (Austria) and Piotr Misztela (Poland). The Bulgarian participants include the winner of the 2023 International Booker Prize, Georgi Gospodinov, Elka Dimitrova, Svidna Mihaylova, Violeta Vicheva and Borislava Ivanova of the Literature Institute with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
