President Rumen Radev has issued decrees appointing ambassadors to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Kazakhstan. The decrees were published in Tuesday's issue of the State Gazette.
Natalia Evgenieva Uzunova has been appointed ambassador to Belgium, Elizabet Konstantinova Varbanova to the Netherlands, and Georgi Petrov Vodenski to Kazakhstan.
Under the Constitution, the President appoints the heads of diplomatic missions upon the proposal of the Council of Ministers.
“The ambassadors were finally agreed upon last week as a package, as it should be, but with compromises on my part, because I am still waiting for their proposals for key capitals such as Washington,” President Rumen Radev said at the end of August, adding that this does not concern only the U.S. capital.
“I want to urge that this trend of having temporary heads of missions should not become the norm — yet it is already starting to,” Radev stated.
A day later, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov responded that the Council of Ministers would submit ambassadorial nominations. "With regard to the ambassadors, preliminary consultation with the President is planned before the Government makes its proposals, with the aim of synchronizing the views of the President and the Government on the country's foreign policy through the ambassadors," explained Zhelyazkov.
“We sent the names to the presidential institution a long time ago. The good news is that the President has approved these names and tomorrow, with a decision of the Council of Ministers, we will officially propose them to him,” the Prime Minister said.
