Most staple food products registered price decreases on Bulgarian wholesale markets this week, according to the weekly bulletin of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets published here on Sunday.

The market price index, which tracks wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, decreased by 3.37% to 2.581 points from 2.671 points a week earlier. Its base level of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

Among vegetables, potatoes and carrots increased by 11.89% to EUR 0.64 per kg, and by 10.97% to EUR 0.87 per kg, respectively. The sharpest decrease was recorded for tomatoes, whose price dropped by 19.08% to EUR 1.90 per kg. A decline was observed for red peppers, down by 14.13% to EUR 3.10 per kg, and green peppers, down by 10.11% to EUR 2.40 per kg. Cabbage prices decreased by 12.28% to EUR 0.70 per kg, green salad - by 12.18% to EUR 0.75 per kg, cuccumbers - by 11.35% to EUR 1.50 per kg, mature onions - by 8.42% to EUR 0.50 per kg, and zucchini- by 6.49% to EUR 1.44 per kg.

In terms of fruit, there is a significant decrease in the price of strawberries, down by 16.87% to EUR 2.68 per kg. Bananas are also cheaper - by 1.92% to EUR 1.53 per kg. The prices of apples rose by 1.23% to EUR 1.32 per kg, and of lemons - by 0.66% to EUR 2.44 per kg.

The price of white brined cow cheese rose by 0.62% to EUR 6.20 per kg, while that of Vitosha-type yellow cheese decreased by 0.23% to EUR 9.64 per kg. Yogurt with 3% or higher fat content is more expensive than last week by 4.23% and is sold at EUR 0.74 per 400-gramme container. Fresh milk is cheaper by 6.3%, down to EUR 1.10 per litre. The price of cow butter, sold in 125-gramme packs, rose by 1.38% to EUR 0.44 per pack.

Frozen chicken meat increased in price by 1.03% to EUR 3.74 per kg, and eggs size M decreased in price by 6.54% to EUR 0.20 per piece wholesale.

The price of rice is down 0.24% to EUR 1.65 per kg, type 500 flour decreased by 9.09% to EUR 0.66 per kg. Cooking oil is also cheaper, falling 6.32% and trading at EUR 1.66 per litre. Mature beans are more expensive - 1.96%, sold at EUR 2.08 per kg, lentils are up 0.78% to EUR 2.07 per kg, and sugar - 0.45% to EUR 0.90 per kg.
