Residents of high-risk flood areas in the municipality of Tsarevo should leave their homes until October 9, the Municipal Headquarters urged on Monday over the expected deterioration of weather conditions in the coming days. The BG-Alert early warning system will be activated later on Monday with an official announcement of dangerous weather, the press centre of the municipal administration said.

For people who are unable to find accommodation on their own, the municipality is offering assistance by providing temporary shelter.

Among the measures taken by the Municipal Headquarters is a request to the Ministry of Environment and Water to form an expert commission. It must determine the causes of the heavy flooding from rivers and dry riverbeds, which begin outside populated areas but affect urbanized areas. Special attention is being paid to the streams and water areas in the regions of Lozenets, Arapya, the Tsarevo Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Cherna River, and the Nestinarka River.

Tsarevo Municipality warns that if the situation worsens further, Tuesday will be declared a non-school day for all schools and kindergartens in the region.

Citizens are urged not to go outside unnecessarily and to avoid dangerous activities such as crossing bridges and water bodies, especially when water levels are high. On October 3, firefighters prevented an accident involving a person on a flooded bridge, the press release recalled.

“Be careful and responsible. The municipal administration teams and the Ministry of Interior authorities are on full alert and working around the clock,” the statement added. The Municipal Headquarters remains in continuous session.
