Interior Minister Daniel Mitov and Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Ivanov met to discuss the initial procedures for repairing the damage caused by the recent heavy rainfall, the Interior Ministry's press centre said here on Monday.

In an official letter, Deputy Regional Development and Public Works Minister Yura Vitanova initiated the launch of a procedure under the European Union (EU) Solidarity Fund for the South-East region. The Ministry of the Interior will be responsible for preparing summary information on preliminary damage assessments and eligible costs. The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works will prepare the documentation for the country's application for assistance from the fund.

The Interior Ministry added that the Solidarity Fund is the EU's main instrument for helping Member States recover from natural disasters such as floods, forest fires, earthquakes, storms and droughts.

Another topic of discussion was coordinating the introduction of temporary traffic arrangements in connection with motorway repair works and traffic relief in the relevant sections between the Traffic Police and the Road Infrastructure Agency.
