site.btaSituation in Burgas Region Gradually Stabilizes Following Severe Weather, Interior Ministry Says


The situation in the Burgas region is gradually returning to normal, according to the Interior Ministry’s press centre. The Ministry said that all available forces and resources in the area are actively assisting local authorities in dealing with the aftermath of the flooding in affected settlements.
A yellow weather alert has been issued Saturday for hazardous conditions in Northeastern Bulgaria. Monitoring has also been organized for the lower reaches of the Tundzha (Southeastern Bulgaria), Yantra (Northern Bulgaria), and Maritsa (Southern Bulgaria) rivers.
Over the past 24 hours, teams from the Fire Safety and Civil Protection General Directorate responded to 340 emergency calls nationwide related to the adverse weather. Police, gendarmerie, and fire department personnel have evacuated more than 100 people from affected areas. States of emergency were declared in municipalities across the regions of Burgas (Southeastern Bulgaria, on the Black Sea), Montana (Northwestern Bulgaria), Vidin (Northwestern Bulgaria, on the Danube River), Pernik (Southwestern Bulgaria), and Kardzhali (Southern Bulgaria).
Of the 340 emergency calls received, 218 were for fallen trees, 100 for water pumping operations, and 22 for evacuations and assistance. More than 80 populated areas remain without electricity. According to power distribution companies, work is ongoing to restore power.
In the Burgas region, the most critical areas remain Tsarevo, Sveti Vlas, and the Elenite resort village. A total of 87 people were evacuated, including 17 children. Parts of Sozopol, the village of Lozenets, and two villages in the Karnobat Municipality experienced temporary power outages. States of emergency were declared in the municipalities of Burgas, Tsarevo, and Nessebar. The BG-Alert system was activated eight times in the last 24 hours.
In the Vidin region, the entire Chuprene Municipality was left without electricity due to a damaged power line. Portions of the road network were closed because of fallen trees.
In the Kardzhali region, a state of emergency was declared in the Ardino Municipality due to a flooded bridge near the village of Kitnitsa. Access was cut off to the villages of Rusalsko, Lyubino, Latinka, Avramovo, Pesnopoy, and Spoluka.
In the Montana region, several settlements in the municipalities of Georgi Damyanovo, Varshets, Berkovitsa, and Chiprovtsi have no electricity. The BG-Alert system was also activated in this region.
In the Pernik region, a state of emergency was declared in the municipality of Tran. Villages in the municipalities of Breznik, Tran, and Zemen are without electricity. The BG-Alert system was activated there as well, the Interior Ministry added.
