Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Atanas Zafirov met with Party of European Socialists (PES) Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck at the PES office in Brussels, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) said in a press release on Friday. Bulgarian MEP Tsvetelina Penkova (BSP/S&D Group) also attended the meeting, which focused on the PES congress in Amsterdam in October 2025.

Zafirov stated that the BSP is a stable and influential member of the left-wing family, and that Bulgaria can serve as a bridge between the different regions of the European Union. He thanked the PES for their support in Bulgaria's adoption of the euro.

He noted the need to win back traditional left-wing voters - the working class. It is expected that the Socialists' European policies will put an emphasis on good working conditions and salaries.
