Montana Mayor Zlatko Zhivkov conferred here on Wednesday with U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires H. Martin McDowell, who visited the northwestern Bulgarian city.
The two spoke in the presence of journalists about opportunities for cooperation between Montana and the U.S. Embassy in Sofia, as well as about the visits of American ambassadors to Montana in recent years. Zlatko Zhivkov expressed his gratitude to the U.S. Embassy for its support during the 2011 election campaign, when he was being prevented from running for another term as mayor. At that time, then-U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria James Warlick stood in support of democracy and the right of every individual to run for office.
McDowell noted that in recent years, trade cooperation between Bulgaria and the United States has been strengthening, highlighting the agreement between the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant and the Westinghouse company. He also expressed hope that the contracted F-16 fighter jets would arrive in Bulgaria soon.
