An outbreak of sheep pox was detected in the village of Levka near Svilengrad (Southeastern Bulgaria) on Monday. 

The Regional Epizootic Commission held an extraordinary meeting after the infection was diagnosed in a livestock farm with 220 sheep that will be euthanized. A 3-kilometre exclusion zone and a 10-kilometre protection zone around the outbreak have been designated.

Nine outbreaks of this type of disease have been detected in Haskovo Region in 2025, the last one in Svilengrad on August 4.
