Fire crews contained two fires on Saturday, one near Sliven in central Bulgaria and another close to Krumovo Airport near the southern city of Plovdiv, officials said.
The fire in Sliven broke out Saturday afternoon in the St. George area and spread across a large section of pine forest. Five fire engines, volunteers, and forestry workers took part in the effort, while police secured the area. No homes were damaged and there was no danger to nearby residents, authorities said.
Earlier in the day, four teams from the Regional Fire Safety and Civil Protection Directorate in Plovdiv extinguished a blaze that had erupted near Krumovo Airport. Reported around 1:40 p.m., the fire burned through about 2.5 hectares of dry grass and stubble. Crews from the airport and the KCM industrial plant assisted in the operation.
