site.btaBulgaria Has Seized 2.70 Kg of Fentanyl in 2025

Some 2.73 kilograms of fentanyl have been seized with the involvement of officers from the General Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime since the beginning of the year, said Interior Minister Daniel Mitov in a written response to a parliamentary question from Yavor Bozhankov, MP of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria coalition. The response has been published on Parliament’s website.
The minister also outlined several preventive measures the Ministry of the Interior has implemented to combat the spread of the drug. Systematic inspections are carried out on shipments and parcels, particularly those coming from China, India, and Mexico - key sources of fentanyl and its precursors. Risk profiles have been developed for passengers and cargo, which are updated regularly.
A specialized unit has been established with the priority task of counteracting the possession and distribution of fentanyl within the country. Controls on precursors have been strengthened, and steps are being taken to prevent the establishment of illicit laboratories.
A constant exchange of information is maintained with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Europol, Interpol, and the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC).
Also, online monitoring is implemented for illegal fentanyl trade, vape devices, and products containing synthetic cannabinoids.
