MRF - New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski Wednesday tabled in Parliament a proposal to close the Commission for Counteracting Corruption (Counter-Corruption Commission). The proposal has been signed by all MP of MRF - New Beginning, the party's press centre reported.
According to the press release, Peevski thus fulfilled his promise made a few days ago that the Commission should be closed because in its current form, it serves those who proposed its creation - Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria, for crisis PR and the creation of an image of victims, while at the same time there are no effective measures to combat corruption.
Peevski called on all parliamentary groups to support the closure of the Counter-Corruption Commission and warned that the vote of the MPs will make it clear who really supports Bulgaria being a law-abiding, European, strong and fair country, and who lies and manipulates people to serve their private party interests, the press release reads.
A political standoff has emerged in Bulgaria over the future of the Counter-Corruption Commission, as top leaders clash over whether to reform or abolish the body - an institution central to Bulgaria’s commitments to the EU under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
