site.btaVP Iotova on Wildfires: People's Anger Is Justified, State Not Doing Its Job

Vice President Iliana Iotova said that people's anger over the fires in the country is justified because the State is not doing its job. In an interview with Nova Television on Sunday she argued that a year after the large wildfire near Yambol, nothing has changed, as promises to take concrete measures and allocate financial resources have not been fulfilled.
Regarding the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, Iotova said that it is a well-functioning system, but miracles cannot be expected because there are fires everywhere in Europe. "Could not some of the funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan be allocated to specialized firefighting equipment, as the presidential institution proposed at the time?" Iotova asked.
She thanked the firefighters and volunteers and added that during the latest pay rises no funds had been allocated for firefighters. "Do you see the double standards?" Iotova asked.
