Two teams from Vratsa's High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences won this year's edition of the European Nuclear Physics ENEN Secondary School Competition held in Bologna, Italy, the Ministry of Education and Science announced on Wednesday.
The competition aims to engage secondary school students with topics related to nuclear science and technology. A total of 135 teams from 17 countries took part in the first stage. Participants were tasked with creating a short video showcasing applications of nuclear science, from energy production and radiation protection to medical technology and space exploration.
The Bulgarian students impressed the jury with their innovative content and creative design, with the two Vratsa teams ranked among the top three. The Ministry of Education and Science added that the third Bulgarian team - from Kozloduy's St. Cyril and Methodius Secondary School - also performed well.
The projects of Vratsa's High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences were also presented during a conference in Vratsa, organized within the framework of the Bulgarian News Agency's project Europe on Balkans. Then one of the participants, Katerina Miroslavova, highlighted that the high school was the only school to send two teams to the final. The themes of the projects were "Nuclear Forensics" and "Nuclear Technology in Support of Food Safety, Sustainable Agriculture and Clean Drinking Water".
