There is no evidence of the police exceeding their powers regarding Todor Kapitanov, Vice President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB), who was taken away for questioning during the protest employees of state forestry and hunting enterprises on the Trakia Motorway, said Stanimir Kaloferov, Director of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Plovdiv.
Kaloferov noted that he has issued an order for a thorough investigation into the case, adding that the questioning of Kapitanov has ended and the trade union leader is again with the protesters.
Earlier, Alexander Markov from the same Regional Directorate stated that Kapitanov was not arrested, but was taken for questioning. Kapitanov was then released nearly three hours after he was taken for questioning to the detention centre in the village of Trud. He described the actions against him as pressure and police arbitrariness.
