The government has approved Bulgaria's position for the informal meeting of European Union environment ministers, which will take place on July 10-11in Aalborg, Denmark.
The agenda of the informal meeting provides for ministers to exchange views on the European Union's climate target for 2040 in the context of the upcoming 30th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, which will take place in November in Brazil. Bulgaria believes that for the UN Climate Change Conference COP30 to be successful, progress needs to be made in several areas, including the provision of ambitious nationally determined contributions and continued discussions on gaps in the implementation of the targets set.
With regard to setting the interim climate target for 2040, Bulgaria believes that setting and successfully implementing the new target will only be possible if the following key conditions are met: the availability of stable, geographically balanced and predictable financing mechanisms to support industrial transformation, energy infrastructure modernisation and innovation deployment; ensuring a just transition and social sustainability; a competitive industry based on clean technologies and creating value in Europe; ensuring flexibility for member states while respecting the principle of technology neutrality.
Ministers will discuss the state of the environment in Europe in 2025 and progress towards the 2030 targets in the context of the 8th Environment Action Programme.
