Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev took part in an official ceremony on Wednesday at INSAIT’s headquarters in Sofia Tech Park, marking the launch of a joint programme between the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) with the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Addressing the event, Donchev said that the agreement with MIT symbolizes INSAIT’s integration into the global, cutting-edge infrastructure in the field of science and technology. "The fact that today we have an agreement between MIT and INSAIT does not mean that INSAIT is just now appearing on the map — it has been on the map for a long time already. What it does mean, however, is something else: that it is now part of the global, avant-garde infrastructure in the field of science and technology. This deserves recognition and admiration not only for Prof. Martin Vechev and the leadership of INSAIT but also for everyone who works, studies, and advances science there," Donchev said.

"In the world of science and in the world of politics, every achievement leads to new ambition. We are exactly in such a situation. You know there are people who live predominantly in the past—seeking lessons and wisdom there, which is good," Donchev said. He noted that there are people fully focused on the present and on solving its immediate challenges and problems, which is also good. "But there are people with the difficult task of living in the future and of pushing the boundary between knowledge and ignorance forward. This is a very heavy fate. An even heavier fate is to make the impossible possible. Life has assigned you such a fate. Not only to make the impossible possible, to create new solutions and new technologies that will change the horizon of knowledge, but at the same time to change our societies, our economies, the way we perceive the world – and that is great," Donchev said in his address to the leadership and representatives of INSAIT.
