The most important thing for earning a Blue Flag is the cleanliness [of the beach] and the comfort of tourists, Boris Kirov, the representative of the concessionaire of Golden Sands beach in the resort of the same name, told BTA. He added that the concessionaire is pleased that for another year the strip is the winner of the prestigious award.

“Cleanliness is very important, the arrangement - too,” he commented. Kirov added that the concessionaire of the beach complies with the scheme for the placement of objects and facilities on the strip.

He explained that for the convenience of tourists, special wooden approaches have been built, which are also convenient for people with disabilities.

Various water attractions are also offered on the strip and all safety measures are applied.

On the beach, which is 144,000 square meters, there will be 26 lifeguard stations during the active season. They will work every day, including weekends, Kirov explained. The lifeguard posts will operate from June 1 to September 30.

To obtain the Blue Flag, beaches must meet a number of criteria, such as water quality, cleanliness, environmental management, safety and other.

BTA is presenting all 30 Bulgarian beaches and harbours awarded the Blue Flag by the international jury of the Programme in Copenhagen. It is the 30th anniversary of the first award for the country - the pilot Blue Flag was raised on Sunny Beach on July 4, 1995.
