The Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) urges citizens who believe that Bulgaria’s full EU membership will be realized after joining the eurozone to strongly support the adoption of the euro across the country, the party said in a press release on Saturday.

Three decades ago, UDF guided Bulgaria on its path to democratic Europe, the statement says. Being part of a strong and unified community provides security, stability, and opportunities for growth. For defence, this is represented by NATO; for shared democratic values, by the European Union; and for financial stability, by the eurozone. The statement notes that joining the eurozone will offer significant benefits to citizens, such as higher incomes and increased investment, and will protect people’s savings, unlike in 1996, when the collapse of 17 banks led to losses for many.

Let us show that in Bulgaria, people who wish to live in a normal European country are more than the Kremlin’s agents and those misled or frightened by anti-European propaganda, the statement says.

In the days leading up to the convergence report on June 4, everyone should show willingness to join the group of prosperous European nations and not be swayed by provocations from opponents of the euro, the statement adds.

Earlier on Saturday, the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) said that if BSP–United Left is in power, it will ensure the protection of people’s wellbeing.
