President Rumen Radev has signed a decree releasing Krum Zarkov from his position as Secretary for Legal Affairs, the head of State’s press secretariat said on Monday. Zarkov had submitted a request earlier on Monday to be relieved from the post.

In a Facebook publication on Friday, Zarkov said that he will submit a request on Monday to be relieved of his duties. Speaking to the Bulgarian News Agency, Zarkov said that his decision was prompted by Radev's plan to propose a referendum on what he called "a constitutionally inadmissible matter", adding that he "cannot agree" with the proposal or continue assisting the President on the issue.

Earlier that evening, in an address to the nation and the National Assembly, Rumen Radev announced that he was tabling a proposal to Parliament for the holding of a national referendum on the euro adoption.

President Rumen Radev has submitted a proposal for a national referendum asking Bulgarians if they agree to have Bulgaria adopt the euro in 2026, said the Presidential Press Secretariat Monday.
