Traffic of motor vehicles over 12 tonnes on road II-19 Simitli–Gotse Delchev via the Ilinden–Exochi border crossing and on road I-1 (E79) Sofia–Kula via the Kula–Promachonas border  crossing is restricted due to a protest by Greek farmers, the Road Infrastructure Agency said.

Passage of heavy trucks through the Kapitan Petko Voyvoda–Ormenio border crossing from the Greek side has been suspended in both directions, the General Directorate of Border Police said earlier on Saturday. On Friday at 8 pm, protesting Greek farmers suspended their strike actions at the Ilinden–Exochi border crossing, and it was reopened for freight traffic in both directions. Passage of trucks in both directions was also restored at the Kulata–Promachonas.

The protests erupted due to delays in the payment of agricultural subsidies following a corruption scandal in the Greek agricultural payments agency OPEKEPE.
