Bansko Mayor Stoycho Banenski said the municipality's long experience gives grounds for confidence that preparations for the winter season have been completed properly. Speaking at a news conference marking the opening of the ski season on Saturday, he said the start of each winter season is met with optimism, despite the unusually warm weather in mid-December this year.
Banenski said preparations begin months before the official opening and involve the municipal administration, the ski zone concessionaire, the tourism sector and local residents. The range of services continues to expand, alongside ongoing infrastructure improvements.
At the start of the season, the mayor wished residents and visitors a successful winter.
Bansko officially opened the 2025/2026 winter season in the presence of ski legends Giorgio Rocca and Marc Girardelli.
According to Bansko Municipality, the resort in the Pirin Mountain welcomed nearly 285,000 tourists between in the first nine months of the year, matching visitor numbers recorded a year earlier.
