Hundreds of volunteers took part in the initiative of the Svilengrad Municipality to restore a burned pine forest near the village of Studena in the Sakar Mountain, the Municipality's press centre said on Friday.

About 500 people, including Topolovgrad Mayor Bozhin Bozhinov, Svilengrad Mayor Anastas Karchev, as well as residents of the villages in the region participated in the restoration of the forest. The Municipality noted that in just two days the volunteers planted 10,000 oak saplings on four acres of municipal land. The Svilengrad Municipality provided transportation, tools, water and dry food. The planting material was donated by Gorata.bg to Svilengrad resident Svetoslav Dimitrov, one of the volunteers who suffered severely in the fire disaster.

The forest fire of 2024 in the region started from this area of the forest. The fire lasted four days until it was localized, and a partial state of emergency was declared for Svilengrad Municipality. Thousands of acres of forests and crops were burned in several villages.
