Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov sent a letter to National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova to remind her that in February he asked the legislature to lift the immunity of six MPs to face criminal proceedings, the Prosecution Service said on Tuesday. Sarafov expects the Assembly to provide information about the steps it has taken on the matter.
On February 4, the prosecution authority re-submitted earlier immunity waiver requests targeting MPs Dzheyhan Ibryamov and Mario Rangelov over two separate investigations, the press release recalled. On February 27, the National Assembly was asked to allow criminal proceedings against four other MPs: Yordan Todorov, Ivailo Chorbov, Slavcho Krumov and Nikola Dimitrov, who were allegedly involved in unlawful acts during a February 22 protest in front of the European Commission Office in Sofia, organized by the far-right nationalist Vazrazhdane party against Bulgaria’s planned accession to the euro area.
Another immunity waiver request against Rangelov was filed on April 7 in connection with a new pretrial procedure over his suspected asking for and accepting a bribe to exert influence in public procurements for two schools.
