Iranian Ambassador to Bulgaria Alireza Irvash was summoned on April 16 at a meeting at the Foreign Ministry in connection with Iran’s attack on Israel on April 14, the Ministry said on Wednesday.

During the meeting Gergana Karadzhova, Director General for Political Affairs said the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry condemns categorically the assault. The attack, unprecedented in terms of its scale and nature, is a serious threat to security in the region and adds new serious challenges to the global security architecture.

Karadzhova told the diplomat that guided by this understanding and assessing in depth the catastrophic consequences of a possible escalation to a direct military conflict between Iran and Israel, Bulgaria once again urges for strict adherence to the founding principles in the UN Charter and international law.

In line with the Joint Statement of the EU and its member states of April 14, Bulgaria calls on all parties to show restraint and avoid measures which could aggravate further the situation. Any escalation of violence should be avoided.

Karadzhova said that together with its international partners Bulgaria remains actively engaged in efforts for establishing lasting and sustainable peace in the Middle East and restoring political prospects for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
