The Group of Social Democrats, Socialists and Progressives in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) elected a new leadership during the organization's Autumn Session, which is taking place in Yerevan, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) said in a press release.
BSP Deputy Head Kristian Vigenin was unanimously re-elected as Chairperson of the Group. Carina Odebrink from Sweden, Daniela De Ridder from Germany and Luis Graca from Portugal were elected deputy chairpersons.
On September 9, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Pia Kauma appointed Vigenin as Special Representative on Eastern Europe. His term includes the duty to monitor developments in the Eastern European region, to promote dialogue between all societal groups, especially at the parliamentary level, and to assist the Parliamentary Assembly in contributing to parliamentary diplomacy, confidence building, reconciliation, and dialogue facilitation. The tasks of the Special Representative also include coordination with other OSCE structures, the Parliamentary Assembly, and other local and international actors on regional issues, especially with regard to Moldova, Belarus, and Ukraine.
