A state of emergency has been declared in the municipality of Svilengrad over the wildfire in Sakar Mountain, Svilengrad Mayor Anastas Karchev told BTA on Sunday.

The flames have engulfed over 1000 ha of dry grasses, bushes and deciduous forests near the villages of Pastrogor, Vaskovo, Mladinovo and Momkovo.

Thirteen fire teams, as well as two bulldozers are on spot, involved in extinguishing the fire. However, strong winds have fanned up the fire, making it difficult to contain. The fire spreads over a perimeter of some 15 kilometres.

Another two wildfires in Haskovo Region, one in the village of Ovcharovo, and a second between the villages of Oryahovo and Kolarovo, have been contained.
