The caretaker Government Thursday approved the establishment of an interagency working group to coordinate industrial cooperation in projects for the procurement of defence equipment and products for the needs of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, the Government Information Service reported. The working group will support the formulation and implementation of State policy in the field of industrial cooperation and ensure the sustainable development of Bulgaria's defence sector in the context of new geopolitical realities, European priorities, and national commitments to NATO and the EU.

In recent years, there have been significant changes in the global and European security environment, a substantial increase in defence spending, and heightened requirements regarding industrial resilience and technological development in the defence sectors. Bulgaria is undergoing an accelerated process of rearming the Bulgarian Army, which involves the expenditure of significant financial resources. In this context, industrial cooperation is increasingly establishing itself as an important tool for the development and modernization of national defence-industrial capabilities, the transfer of technology and know-how, and integration into European and global value chains, the Government Information Service said.

An interagency working group will facilitate better coordination and engagement of the relevant national institutions in the process of acquiring defence capabilities and will contribute to the more targeted development and modernization of national industrial and technological capacity, the press release reads.
