site.btaCC-DB's Atanas Atanassov Calls for Immediate Security Council Meeting over Petrohan Case, Urges Declassification of Documents
In three days, a new caretaker Council of Ministers will be appointed. I call on the [future caretaker] prime minister, if he is formally appointed, to immediately convene a meeting of the Security Council, Deputy National Assembly Chair Atanas Atanassov, MP of Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC–DB), told Bulgarian National Radio here on Sunday, commenting on the Petrohan deaths case.
According to Atanassov, the security services should declassify the documents related to the case within the framework of the Security Council, draft a memorandum and make it public.
“The whole truth must come out and everyone must bear their responsibility,” Atanassov said. He added that he has not visited the lodge near Petrohan.
He also claimed that Denyo Denev, acting Chair of the State Agency for National Security (SANS), lied during his hearing in Parliament and urged him to resign.
Regarding the composition of the caretaker cabinet, Atanassov said that [the caretaker prime minister designate] Andrey Gurov, together with the President, should resolve this matter, and that Gurov will bear responsibility, through the interior minister he appoints, for the organisation of the [upcoming snap parliamentary] elections.
“Veselin Vuchkov told me that due to many other commitments he has, he will not accept a proposal to become minister of interior,” Atanassov added.
“The level of Bulgarian politics is zero,” Atanas Atanassov said, likening parliamentary sittings to a performance.
“In this Parliament, we are the only political force that is firmly oriented toward the West, toward Europe; we have never equivocated on this issue,” he added.
