Vazrazhdane calls on President Rumen Radev to appoint a caretaker cabinet as soon as possible and issue a decree scheduling elections, party leader Kostadin Kostadinov told journalists in Parliament's lobby on Friday. Vazrazhdane's call comes after the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (APR) parliamentary group Friday returned unfulfilled the third exploratory mandate to form a regular government.
"I am glad that the APR returned the mandate as quickly as possible, as it should have been," Kostadinov commented. The earliest possible date for the snap parliamentary elections is March 22, followed by March 29, according to the Vazrazhdane leader.
Every day that the government of GERB-UDF, MRF-New Beginning, BSP-United Left, and There Is Such a People continues to work is a gift to corruption. Vazrazhdane calls on President Radev to stop giving gifts to corruption, Kostadinov went on to say.
Vazrazhdane proposes the introduction of 100% machine voting, he recalled, but added that there is obviously no will for such an amendment to the Election Code. If the revisions to the Election Code are those envisaged by the current ruling majority, it would be better not to adopt them, Kostadinov commented.
According to him, the choice for caretaker prime minister is between Bulgarian National Bank Deputy Governor Andrey Gurov and "a proxy of Delyan Peevski", leader of MRF-New Beginning. Because of the amendments to the Constitution, the situation is what it is, he said.
Under the Constitution, the pool of potential caretaker prime ministers from which the President may choose is limited to the Chairperson of the National Assembly, the Governor or Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, the President or a Vice-President of the National Audit Office, and the National Ombudsman or a Deputy Ombudsman.
