site.btaGovernment Approves Investment Project for Acquisition of Minehunters

The Council of Ministers approved an investment project for the acquisition of seven minehunter-type vessels, equipped with modern systems for detecting, identifying, and neutralizing mines and mine-like objects. The availability of such vessels will enable the Bulgarian Navy to fulfill its assigned tasks of ensuring defence and maritime security in national waters, support national authorities, and meet the country’s international obligations.

The war between Ukraine and the Russian Federation has significantly increased the mine threat in the Black Sea, which required a reassessment of previous assumptions and an adjustment of calculations for the number of minehunters needed to overcome the mine hazard in the maritime domain, effectively covering all three missions of the Armed Forces.
