During consultations with President Rumen Radev here on Thursday, ahead of the procedure to hand out mandates for forming a new government, MECh Chair Radostin Vasilev said that his party sees no possibility of forming a functioning government through "political betrayals".
Vasilev said: "The current government was formed through major political betrayals by TISP [There Is Such a People] and BSP - United Left, which led to discontent among a large part of their voters. This parliament cannot produce an Election Code that guarantees fair elections, because the majority in it [in parliament] is different [from what the electorate wants]."
Vasilev suggested that February is a bad time to hold elections, while the first week of April on the other hand is the best time.
The MP warned that if the ruling majority's unprecedented arrogance towards voters is not eliminated through the parliamentary mechanisms of democracy, Bulgaria may get closer to a revolution. He suggested that thinking of GERB Chair Boyko Borissov and MRF - New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski as separate entities is wrong, since they are a part of the same organized crime circle, which should be eliminated.
Vasilev said that if his party is granted the third government-forming mandate, it will make sure to conduct the fairest elections possible. He added: "We have prepared laws to amend and supplement the Election Code in relation to machine voting, because paper voting is the most susceptible to manipulation in Bulgaria."
