“Democracy requires the ability to hear different opinions, even when we do not like them, because this is how we preserve the choice Bulgaria made more than three decades ago – the path of a democratic rule-of-law state,” Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said at the start of Wednesday’s government meeting.
The Prime Minister emphasized that it was important for the entire cabinet to be present during the debates on the vote of no confidence, since all arguments, whether justified or not, must be heard in order for analyses, conclusions, and policies to be properly addressed.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov recalled that the government came in with a clear intention to build upon what previous administrations had achieved, so that future ones could step on what has been done. He noted that the cabinet hears the voices of both young people and older generations on how Bulgaria can become a better place to live.
Rosen Zhelyazkov called for the protests to remain calm and peaceful, reminding that the exercise of civil rights requires respecting the rights of everyone - protesters, police officers, and every other group, regardless of political differences.
