In the event of an escalation of tensions at Monday’s protest, the Sofia Municipality should immediately exercise its legal powers and, upon notification from the police, issue an order to terminate it, said Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov, Director of the Sofia Directorate of Interior at a news briefing on Monday.
According to him, aggressive individuals who deliberately provoke, destroy state property, or assault police officers must be removed immediately. ”This is possible when “the law allows us to terminate the event in question,” Nikolov added.
“Checkpoints will be set up, at which all individuals with a history of aggression at previous protests will be thoroughly inspected,” Nikolov said.
Continue the Change leader Assen Vassilev warned Interior Minister Daniel Mitov that provocations are being prepared for the protest this evening at 6 p.m. in front of the National Assembly building, and that they must be prevented. He also called on GERB leader Boyko Borissov to withdraw the 2026 budget so as not to “blow up the country.”
