Addressing the Fourth Forum of the Prosecutors General of the Balkan States in Sofia Monday, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov underscored the importance of multilateral cooperation in law enforcement across the Balkans, highlighting that equal participation and coordinated decision-making are key to addressing the region’s shared challenges. "Multilateral cooperation enables common decisions and coordination to be achieved on an equal footing between participants," said he.

This edition highlights the significance of international cooperation in effective law enforcement, particularly in regions with a rich historical, political and social heritage, such as the Balkans. The region is a cradle of turbulence and challenges, as well as a place of great opportunities, he added. In his words, the region provides conditions that facilitate success, but also present challenges to effective law enforcement. "When I talk about law enforcement, positive law is the guarantee that rules of conduct will be applied in the best possible way," said Zhelyazkov.

The Fourth Forum of the Prosecutors General of the Balkan States brings together the heads of prosecutors' offices from the Southeast European region and partner institutions from the European Union at the highest level. This initiative was taken by the Chief Prosecutors of Bulgaria and Turkey. The forum was last held in Izmir in 2019. Sofia is hosting the event for a second time. The event aims to foster stable partnerships and cooperation between the prosecutorial offices of Balkan countries on issues such as transnational crime and illegal immigration. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov emphasised the importance of addressing cybercrime and countering attempts at cyber modelling of public relations, given that the Balkans are currently subject to significant hybrid influence.
