site.btaOnly via Dialogue and Once It Has Fulfilled Its Commitments Can North Macedonia Begin Negotiations, Says Parliament Chair Kiselova

"We hope that our neighbors in the Republic of North Macedonia will see that when there is dialogue and when commitments between the European Union and the country in question are fulfilled, negotiations can be greatly accelerated, as is the case with Albania," Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova told journalists on Thursday.
Each country must be assessed individually, rather than on the basis of geopolitical prerequisites for accession, Kiselova pointed out.
The position of the Bulgarian state, which was expressed in the decision of the National Assembly on May 30, 2025, is that every country in the Western Balkans should become a member of the European Union. The sooner this happens, the better for all of us, Kiselova added.
"The efforts of our partners in the Republic of North Macedonia to say that the agreements are between governments are unacceptable to us. The agreements were concluded between the European Commission and the Republic of North Macedonia. Bulgaria is not part of this process. It is not correct to portray the relations as bilateral," she noted.
Bulgaria's intentions are for all countries to begin negotiations as soon as possible and as quickly as possible. It is clear that when commitments are made and fulfilled, as in the case of Albania and Montenegro, the procedures on the European side are set in motion, the Parliament Chair added.
