site.btaTurkish Intelligence Publishes Photo of Operative Who Worked in Bulgaria between 1931 and 1950

The Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT) has published for the first time in its photographic archive a picture of its intelligence operative Arif Necip Kaskatı, who worked in Bulgaria between 1931 and 1950, Anadolu Agency reported on Friday.

Alongside the photograph, MİT published a brief biography stating that Kaskatı was born in Razgrad in 1901 and carried out important assignments for Turkish intelligence in Bulgaria between 1931 and 1950.

"Kaskatı, who worked as the correspondent covering Türkiye’s Thrace region for a number of Istanbul newspapers, spoke Bulgarian very well and was known among his Turkish compatriots in Bulgaria by the nickname ‘Bay Hristo’. He was noted for his strong character and patriotism during his service. Because of a Bulgarian intelligence agent believed to have been working as a double agent, Kaskatı was killed in June 1950 when his vehicle was ambushed as he attempted to cross the Bulgarian border towards Edirne," the note accompanying the photograph said.

Following the publication of the photograph in MİT’s archive, short videos about Kaskatı’s activities as an intelligence operative in Bulgaria also appeared on social media.
