For the eighth day in a row, citizens have been blocking several key locations in Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, while police continue to prevent them from disrupting traffic for extended periods.

As in recent days, the blockades began early in the morning, according to BTA correspondent in Belgrade.

The city is experiencing heightened police presence, with law enforcement officers conducting widespread identity checks and issuing fines to those gathered for disturbing public order.

Protesters have taken part in various acts of civil disobedience at ten different sites across Belgrade, according to social media reports.

On Monday, a demonstration was also held in front of the Main Prosecutor’s Office in support of Prof. Biljana Stojkovic from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Belgrade. Stojkovic recently posted a call for civil disobedience on social media, as reported by TV station En1.

Last night, units of the Gendarmerie in Uzice (Western Serbia) dispersed a crowd of citizens who had previously broken through police cordons and temporarily blocked the highway to Zlatibor, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported via RTS.

Just before the clashes with police, a group of Uzice citizens recited lines from a play by Ljubomir Simovic, who passed away in April this year: “I will rise, trampled, crushed, oppressed, against steel armies with wooden swords,” local media outlet Ozon Press reported.
