site.btaAUR to Contest Election Results in Court, Citing Foreign Interference

The nationalist Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), led by George Simion, has refused to participate in the consultations for forming a new government and is planning to contest the presidential election results.
At presidential runoffs on May 18, Nicusor Dan won a surprise victory over George Simion.
“We refuse to endorse a political farce. Romanians deserve respect. Nicușor Dan chooses to speak only with parties that supported him in the election campaign as an independent candidate, or that may be useful to him in forming his future government. This attitude is deeply anti-democratic and mocks the millions of Romanians who voted differently,” AUR stated in a live broadcast online.
The party claims that there was foreign interference in the second round of Romania’s presidential election on May 18, citing statements made by the founder of Telegram alleging that French intelligence asked him to ban conservative Romanian voices on the platform.
“The elections may be over, but the lies and manipulation continue in the form of the so-called elected president,” the Alliance for the Union of Romanians added. The party announced plans to challenge the election results in the Constitutional Court.
