On the final day of the election campaign in Romania, the two presidential candidates, Nicusor Dan and George Simion, are nearly tied. The latest poll by the AtlasIntel agency shows a margin of just 0.9% between them.

According to the poll, 48.7% of respondents said they would vote for independent candidate and current Bucharest mayor Nicusor Dan, while 47.8% support George Simion, the candidate of the nationalist Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) party.

1.8% of those surveyed said they would not vote, and 1.7% remain undecided.

The poll was conducted for the HotNews website between May 13 and 15, using an advanced digital sampling method, with a statistically balanced sample of 5,628 eligible voters from both Romania and the diaspora. The margin of error is ±1% at a 95% confidence level.

The previous AtlasIntel poll, published three days ago, showed the two presidential contenders running neck and neck.

"Voter turnout in the second round of Romania's presidential election will be the decisive factor," Remus Stefureac, CEO of INSCOP Research, wrote on his Facebook profile.

He believes that although Friday marks the final official day of the campaign, it will continue on the social media platform TikTok over the weekend.
